Outreach Ministries

JUSTICE AND PEACE
We, the Justice and Peace committee of Spirit of Christ Catholic community commit ourselves to:

We hold our meeting on the first Monday of the month from 7-9pm. All are welcome to attend. Our parish ministries are as follows:

AIDS OUTREACH ministers to those living with HIV/AIDS and their families and friends with education, assistance, love and companionship in their journey. There are opportunities to help with our Project Angel Heart meal delivery program and you can join our SOC Team in walking in the Colorado AIDS WALK every August.

BIRTHRIGHT ministry makes clothing and other "bunting" items for infants and small children, including crocheting and knitting and sewing. They make maternity clothing for the mothers. They meet once a month for planning and sewing and twice a year put on a baby shower for those in need.

BLANKETS FOR BABIES makes afghans, quilts and receiving blankets for newborns for Birthline, an abortion alternative organization. Some members purchase their own materials, some use donated materials and some use materials that we purchase with our budget. Would you like to sew at home for little ones who need a "new blanket"?

HOPE (HelpOurPeopleEat) Ministry. Our primary goal is to provide well-balanced meals to individuals and families as well as organizations who offer free food to those requesting assistance. We provide nutritional food directly in the "food baskets", vouchers from SHARE Colorado, sack lunches to the homeless, and stock non-profit organization’s pantries in the archdiocesan area.

MIGRANT MINISTRY is an outreach to Colorado Migrants to help meet basic human needs and change structures that deny them the dignity and rights due all human beings. We collaborate with other parishes and organization interested in furthering the cause of the plight of the migrants.

PRISON MINISTRY Mission is "to improve the lives of all people affected by incarceration, with the vision and hope of making an everyday difference in the quality of life for all prisoners, ex-prisoners, families of prisoners."

SHARE AMERICA COLORADO is a not-for-profit program that buys in volume from some of the same companies as the local grocery stores without the overhead. Spirit of Christ is a host site for the monthly distribution of the packages ordered through the office and recipients participate in the savings, thus supporting those in the community who are in need by offering free food packages and delivery to the homebound.

SOUTHERN EXPOSURE is committed to raising awareness of the plight of people living in the third world. Teams consisting of 12-15 volunteers typically spend one week living and working in a colonia in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico building a solid home for a local family. Volunteers, from teens to those in their 70’s, with no previous construction experience can participate in a build while being immersed in a culture far removed from their own.

SOUP KITCHEN volunteers prepare and serve meals one day a month at the Catholic Workers soup Kitchen. Desserts are provided by our parishioners monthly. We always need donations. Call the office for details.

TOUCH volunteers prove meals for bereaved family and friends after funerals. Parishioners prepare deserts, salads or side dishes to share at the funeral luncheon. Call the office to volunteer your time to help serve or to volunteer to bring a dish for the funeral luncheon.
