Stewardship

Stewardship is a way of life.

Stewardship Statement

We, the family of Spirit of Christ Catholic Community, believe stewardship is our grateful and obedient response to God’s redeeming love. We recognize that all creation is placed in our trust by God. We acknowledge that our ability to respond faithfully to God’s love is empowered by the Holy Spirit. Stewardship requires responsible return to God from our resources of time, talent and treasure. We further acknowledge that we are called to live out this response individually and in community.

Importance of Offertory…Giving Thanks!

As you may already know the Greek word “Eucharist” means “Thanksgiving”. So every Catholic Mass consists of 2 movements; the Liturgy of the Word, where we are fed by the words of scripture, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, were we are literally fed by Christ himself in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
There is a transition from one Liturgy to the other which provides us an opportunity to quietly respond to what we have heard and prepare for what is coming… this is the Offertory.
We have always given great reverence towards this moment in the Mass, and coupled with our grateful culture of stewardship, it is from this moment that God receives what we give, blesses it and in His amazing way gives it back to us, more than what it was. Recognizing that the Eucharist is the ‘source’ and ‘summit’ of our faith the Finance Council continues to uphold this moment within the Mass as our primary expression of both gratitude and dependence upon God for all things here at Spirit of Christ. This is why you may have heard that we don’t “do fundraisers” or “special drives to support the parish”.
In the past, Spirit of Christ has not taken up an Offertory at Holy Days of Obligation, although it is intimately a part of the Mass that is being celebrated. Holy Days, like Sundays are days designated by the Church to set aside for God, prayer and worship outside of our normal routine; remembering that everything comes from God. As a result, the community is now being invited to participate in the Offertory on these unique and special Holy Days throughout the year.
As part of this invitation, the Finance Council will be “designating” all the offerings from these 4 Holy Days, Mary Mother of God (January 1st), The Assumption of Mary (August 15th), All Saints (November 1st), and The Immaculate Conception (December 8th) to be set aside specifically for the Capital expenses of the property of the parish. By participating in these Offertories, you will be designating your offering for the capital expenses of our Community.
Thank You for the Gratitude you already express through your participation in the Offertory!
